Calculation rules: Jan 1, 2026

For the gaps your payroll system leaves.

Twenty-five payroll calculators and three compliance engines, covering all fifty states. Deterministic rules, every figure traceable to the CFR section or IRS instruction that produced it. Payroll compliance delivered without the guesswork.

No chatbot is guessing at your withholding. The logic is written down, and so is the citation.

Calculation method per 29 CFR 778.209. Real math, running in your browser — the same routine the full tool uses.

01Transparency

100% open logic

Every rule links directly to the specific CFR section or IRS instruction that produced it. Nothing sits behind a black box.

02Auditability

Export-ready audit trails

Download the full breakdown the moment you run it — inputs, intermediate math, citation, timestamp.

03Determinism

Zero AI guesswork

Pure rule-based calculation. The same inputs return the same figure in March and in November — the only property a reviewer cares about.

The method

Three steps from a messy scenario to a record you can hand to an auditor.

  1. 01

    Enter the scenario

Country, visa, dates, income type. The wizard asks only the questions that change the answer, and skips the ones that don’t.

  2. 02

Read the rule that decided it

Substantial Presence arithmetic, the treaty article and its cap, the form that follows. Shown before you commit, not buried in a PDF afterwards.

  3. 03

    Export the binder

IRS form, cover sheet, timestamp, and the inputs that produced it. Still legible in eighteen months when someone asks why.

Compliance engines

For when an estimate isn’t good enough.

Calculators answer a question. Engines produce a documented determination with a record behind it.

NRA Treaty Wizard

Substantial Presence and treaty eligibility in one pass. Returns the form path — 8233, W-8BEN or NRA W-4 — with warnings surfaced early. 50+ treaty countries.

Multi-State Nexus

Where a remote employee actually triggers a state obligation — physical presence, reciprocity agreements, and the registration that follows.

Garnishment Priority

Three orders, one paycheck, and a ceiling. Resolves levies against child support under federal CCPA priority and shows the disposable-earnings math.

Questions

The things people ask before they trust a number.

Still stuck? support@yourpaybot.com reaches a person who has run payroll.

Are the free calculators actually free?+

Yes. No account, no email gate, no trial clock. The NRA Wizard is free too — it asks for an email at the end because that is where the completed form gets sent, not to unlock anything. Two engines sit behind the Pro plan because they cost real time to maintain, and universities pay for volume and record-keeping.

Does my data leave the browser?+

Not for the calculators. The payroll audit tool parses your export locally — the file is never uploaded. Wizard determinations are stored only if you save them to your vault, and you can delete them.

Is there an LLM deciding my withholding?+

No. Every engine is rule-code with a citation attached. The same inputs produce the same output on Tuesday as they did in March, which is the only property that matters when someone reviews the file later.

Can I use the output as tax advice?+

It is a documented determination, not legal or tax advice. Most teams use it as the working paper behind a decision their own policy owns — which is exactly what it was built to be.

How current are the 2026 figures?+

Brackets, standard deductions, FICA wage bases and the OBBBA overtime and tips deductions are on the 2026 tables — federal figures from Rev. Proc. 2025-32, the Social Security wage base from SSA. They live in one versioned table every calculator reads, and a build-time guard fails the release if a tool drifts from it or if the table drifts from the source ledger.
